Cupping Therapy
What is it?
It may look a little mysterious — rows of glass, plastic, or silicone cups laid out across the body like spines on an ancient dinosaur— but cupping therapy is one of the oldest forms of healing known to humanity. Perhaps you first came across the concept of cupping during the Winter Olympics, a few years ago, after wondering just what in the heck all those perfectly circular bruises all over so many of the athletes were-looking like huge hickeys from a Colossal Squid!! Maybe you have never heard of the practice. Or, perhaps, if you are an Eastern Medicine fanatic like myself, it is a concept you have heard rave reviews of! Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), cupping is now making waves in Western wellness spaces. This is due in large part to its powerful effects on pain, circulation, and recovery. It is the miraculous, cumulative result of combining ancient energetic principles from Eastern traditions with the modern medical and anatomical knowledge of the West
The Roots: Traditional Chinese Medicine
In TCM, cupping is used to move Qi (life force energy), break up stagnation, and restore balance to the body's meridians — the channels through which vital energy flows. It’s often prescribed for everything from muscle soreness to colds to emotional blocks. Through modern medical research, we are able to clearly see that theses spiritual practices and traditional uses are, in fact, backed by science.
The Science: Anatomy, Physiology, and Clinical Benefits
Western research shows that cupping increases circulation and blood flow, moving it into areas which were previously too tense to allow the proper blood and therefore oxygen flow. Here, immediately, can be seen a direct connection with the ancient wisdom of the east. Blood & oxygen could easily be termed an essential life force, a concept in perfect alignment with the eastern idea of Qi (pronounced "Chee"). Cupping has been found by modern medical research to loosen restrictions in fascia, reduces inflammation, release adhesions and tension in the muscle tissue, and can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system — shifting you out of “fight or flight.” Here, again, we see the modern medical proof of innate ancient wisdom in its use to remove emotional blocks.
Cupping also creates a localized immune response, drawing metabolic waste to the surface and triggering the body’s natural detox processes.

🌿 BLOG POST #2: "Massage, Mindfulness & the Magic of Just Being OK"
Intro:
Sometimes, happiness feels out of reach. But peace? That quiet knowing that you’re okay — even when life is messy, even when nothing is “fixed”? That’s a whole different kind of freedom.
Mindfulness, meditation, and massage aren’t just wellness trends — they’re ancient tools that help us return to ourselves. And in the Eastern tradition, this return is sacred.
Chakras: The Energetic Map of Your Inner World
The chakras are spinning energy centers aligned along the spine, each connected to different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves.
Massage, when offered with awareness, can help unblock stagnant energy, restore alignment, and invite healing not just to muscles, but to you.
Mindfulness & Massage: Spiritual Practice in a Physical World
When massage is paired with breath, intention, and presence, it becomes more than therapeutic — it becomes transcendent. You’re not just relaxing. You’re reconnecting. You’re being witnessed.
Touch becomes prayer.
The table becomes a temple.
And your body becomes a map back home.
The Power of Presence
Meditation teaches us that peace is always available. It’s not about escaping pain — it’s about learning to sit beside it. To observe without judgment. To be still in the storm and know:
This, too, shall pass.
You don’t need to be euphoric. You don’t need to “fix” yourself.
You are enough. Right now. As you are.
Closing:
Come home to your body.
Come back to your breath.
Come into the moment — because it’s the only place peace ever lives.
At Bespoke Wellness & Massage, we hold space for your stillness, your softness, and your spiritual self.
